Kartrak is a startup based in Florianópolis, Brazil, that focuses on the construction sector, providing innovative solutions that enable the control of all parts of the companies through fully integrated systems.

Kartrak and Jungsoft are long-term partners. We collaborate on the development of new complex features and complement their technical team by providing help with planning, architecture and code-reviews.

The Problem

Most cement factories in Brazil are not yet automated, and the ones that are, use expensive solutions that are not flexible enough and do not integrate well with other systems in the market. This leads to unnecessary manual work and overall inefficiencies.

Kartrak's goal is to improve these factories through a cost-effective solution that meets the industry's highly demanding needs.

The Solution

To reach our objective, we came up with a cloud-based IoT system that uses modular embedded devices. By having a cloud-native solution, we enable complete remote control of factories, integrations with ERPs and advanced Business Intelligence Reports.

The Implementation

On top of the proprietary hardware, we use a Raspberry Pi that runs embedded Elixir and Python software, as well as React for serving beautiful interactive user interfaces that mimic the plant and provide an intuitive experience to the operators.

To deal with environments that have an unreliable internet connection, the embedded software is completely self-contained and synchronizes with a cloud-based system that allows controlling the factories remotely and aggregates the data from multiple plants in one place.

We also use Balena for managing our IoT fleet infrastructure, which enables us to build secure systems that scale well. By providing over-the-air updates, we ensure that the factories are always receiving new updates and that the factories are getting more efficient every day.

The Results

We already have dozens of factories using our automation solution in their day-to-day, with still many more to come.

By combining the power of cloud-native solutions with modern web technologies and innovative IoT practices, we were able to provide a cutting-edge solution that is making factories smarter, safer and more efficient.
